Pequannock River Coalition Park Restoration Project – June 26 & July 18
Japanese knotweed, a plant invader from Asia, grows to heights of 12 feet, forming dense stands along rivers and streams, and offers no benefit to wildlife. This weed has been forcing out native vegetation and gobbling up the Pequannock riverbank. Time for it to go!
June 26th—Knotweed Removal at Appelt Park
On June 26th we will be working at removing Japanese knotweed from Appelt Park. Please give us a hand! Drinks, tools and gloves will be provided, but extra shovels are welcome. There will be tasks to suit everyone at every age or energy level.
These efforts will not only prepare the park for replanting in 2011 with native shrubs and trees, but will also help spread the word on the danger these invasive plants pose.
Appelt Park is on the east side of Hamburg Turnpike in Riverdale, about 1/2 mile north of Rt. 287. The work session begins at 10:00 AM and ends at 1:00 PM.
July 18—2nd Knotweed Removal
This will be our second work session at Appelt Park, continuing the removal of knotweed. Please help us to reclaim these lands! Again, drinks, tools and gloves will be provided. Extra shovels are welcome. This work session also begins at 10:00 AM and ends at 1:00 PM.
