From NJ Chapter Sierra Club:
The Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company is proposing the Northeast Upgrade, a pipeline that would cut through some of the most sensitive lands in New Jersey, including the Skylands, Highlands and critical water supply areas. The company has already succeeded with its first pipeline proposal and we must stop them from pushing through another one.
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) is preparing an Environmental Assessment to address the environmental impacts of this project and is seeking input from the public. Please make your voice heard by either attending a hearing or submitting written comments.
We cannot allow this company to get away with destroying our land for a second time!
This pipeline will cut through the Highlands preservation area, West Milford, Ringwood, and Mahwah as it leads into New York State, disturbing numerous parks, including Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, Highlands Preservation Area, High Point State Park, Stokes State Forest, Ringwood State Park and Ramapo River Reservation, Long Pond Ironworks State Park, Ringwood State Park, Ramapo State Forest, Skylands Manor State Park, Sterling Forest in New Jersey, and Ramapo River Reservation. If pushed through, this pipeline will destroy critical animal habitats, threaten our water supply, and clear cut forests on state land.
Please attend a hearing on either November 1st or 3rd and voice your opposition to this pipeline. Tell FERC that a full environmental Impact Statement must be completed for this project.
If you cannot attend the hearing, you can still make your voice heard by sending written comments to FERC. We have drafted a sample letter to help you prepare your comments. Click here to contact FERC and tell them you oppose this pipeline.
Thank you for your help!
