In the fight to win important swing states in the Midwest and West, both President Obama and Mitt Romney's campaigns have resorted to stretching facts and figures in the polarized debate over the wind energy production tax credit (PTC), a prominent fact-checking blog found.
The candidates are on opposite sides of the issue — Romney’s team announced last week he would let the 2.2 cent-per-kilowatt-hour credit for wind production end on Dec. 31, while Obama wants to extend it. Romney’s take has worried voters in crucial states like Colorado and Iowa, where Obama has been keen to launch an offensive on the issue to highlight the White House contenders’ differences.
