A 58-year-old Delmar man died Sunday after a fall from the top of Kaaterskill Falls. Conditions on the trail to Kaaterskill Falls was “icier than usual” on Sunday, according to local hiker and Coxsackie resident Terri Aierle.

This hike loops around the park, paralleling a scenic stream for part of the way, with interesting ruins of a dam and bridge.

The Ramapo Mountains of northern NJ are a hiker’s paradise, thousands of acres in public hands, crisscrossed with well marked trails, and very close to a population of millions.
